- Stephanie LaPlante
- My name is Stephanie LaPlante, I'm 25 years old and I live in the wonderful country of Canada. I'm not sure how to describe myself besides being random and often times weird. People tell me I have a great sense of humor and I definitely enjoy kidding around. I love being around my family and friends all the time. For those who dont know, I'm in a wheelchair. I was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy which does not mean I'm paralyzed. I "do" feel my legs. SMA has a lot of similarities to Muscular Dystrophy, except it effects the nervous system rather then the muscles alone. It basically means, the older I get, the weaker my muscles become. Better news is they almost have a cure for what I have. There's still a long way to go but I believe I will be here when it happens. The upcoming cure is supposed to reverse this. So maybe one day, I’ll be able to walk. This life has definitely been a battle but I'm winning with a great big smile on my face. Even though it gets hard sometimes, I absolutely adore my life and the people in it.
